Circle Structure

Categories:

Circle structure is the fundamental organising unit in both Holacracy and Sociocracy. A circle is a semi-autonomous team with a clear purpose, defined roles, and the authority to govern its own internal structure. Circles can contain sub-circles, creating a nested hierarchy of purpose rather than power.

Circles solve the scaling problem that flat organisations face. As an organisation grows, a single team cannot hold all the complexity. Circles let you distribute that complexity into focused groups while maintaining alignment through linking roles and shared governance practices.

Nestr is built around circle structure from the ground up. Every circle has its own roles, accountabilities, domains, policies, projects, metrics, and governance history. Sub-circles nest naturally, linking roles connect them, and the full structure is visible and searchable across the organisation.
