Consent decision-making is the core governance method in Sociocracy. A proposal passes when no circle member has a reasoned, paramount objection. It does not require everyone to agree or even prefer the proposal. It only requires that no one can articulate a specific reason why it would cause harm.
Consent is faster than consensus and more inclusive than majority voting. Consensus stalls on personal preferences. Majority voting ignores the minority. Consent threads the needle: it moves decisions forward quickly while taking legitimate concerns seriously.
Nestr supports consent decision-making through its governance meeting workflow. Proposals go through structured rounds, objections are recorded and tested for validity, and approved decisions are applied directly to the circle structure. The audit trail captures the full decision process for transparency.
